iPlayOutside.com/WVMBA Dream Teams represent
The 2008 24 Hours of Big Bear presented 165 teams, ready to race against the clock and each other. iPlayOutside.com and the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association (WVMBA) partnered to place four teams into the field to compete. All four came home with victories!

The iPlayOutside.com/WVMBA Dream Team: Jason Cyr, Joey Riddle, Chris McGill, and Andy Wiedrich, not only won their Men's Pro class, but also battled hard to take home the overall race victory. During the early laps, the Dream Team trailed a very fast Dirty Harry's team. Consistent lap times throughout the night were key. This helped the Dream Team to move into 1st overall. They never looked back from then on.

The Dream Team completed 19 laps and finished 45 minutes ahead of the Dirty Harry's team that took 2nd overall.

iPlayOutside.com/WVMBA Womens Team: Betsy Shogren and Cassie Smith
The iPlayOutside.com/WVMBA Women's Team consisted of Betsy Shogren and Cassie Smith.

The ladies took the win in the Women's Expert Class and completed 15 laps for a total of 192 miles. They also finished 29th overall for the event. Betsy collected the award for fastest women's lap, with a time of 1:19:04 on her second lap.

Some 15 laps later, the iPlayOutside.com/WVMBA Women would have finished second in the Duo Pro class if they had raced in that class.

Hipster Doofus & the Kessel Run (another iPlayOutside/WVMBA supported team), had two members: Gunnar Shogren (or his assumed name as he was called all weekend, Sam Hill), and Morgan Miller. Hill's fast lap also had him running in as he broke his chain right after the WV Night Club/Voodoo Lounge camp area.

That same area also made Hill (er-ah Gunner) flat on the second of my laps, and drop his chain big on the third. "I asked them nicely to put away the voodoo doll and pins and I had no other problems." said Hill (Gunnar).

The two riders dominated the Duo Pro Class. Combined, they rode an incredible 17 laps and finish 11th overall.

Gunnar also provided the race's fastest lap for all males with a 1:07:42 on the 12.1 mile course. Hill (aka Shogren) and Miller rode a total of 219 miles by the weekend's end.

Team Smokin Fatty's: Larry Perkins, Deak Smith, Philip Poff and J.R. Petsko (me), took home 1st in the Clydesdale class completed 10 laps for a total of 128 miles. We also finished 109th out of 165 teams.

Team Smokin Fattys, the top Clydesdales for the day, no Thoroughbreds!
That was good for me! I didn't get to spend much time with my team because I had to run the WVMBA booth at the event and help out with the other teams, but I had a blast and hope to do it again. Oh yeah, by the way, the crash at 4:00 am didn't feel so good though.

Not only did our four iPlayOutside.com/WVMBA team do amazing well, but some of our other friends/WVMBA members also had some stellar performances this weekend.

The Dirty Harry's team of Robert Spreng Jr., Henry Spreng Jr., Henry Spreng III, and Justin Pokrivka finished second overall and won the Men's Expert class.

The Big Bear Masters team: Matt Marcus, Bob Vernon, Scott Root, and Matt Ross, won their Men's Master class by completing 17 laps. They finished 7th overall.

The Custom Contracting Cancer Awareness team: Benji Klimas, Chris Phillips, John Martin, and Mark Glass, won 3rd place in the Men's Expert class, finishing 4th overall and completing 18 laps.

The Wamsley Cycles Factory Team: Nathan Annon, Jeremy Rowand, Josh Chapman and Steve Rowand rode hard all weekend. They completed 18 laps to finish 4th in the Men's Expert class and 5th overall for the entire event.

Team X: LB, Andy, Hoss, and Larry won the Single/Rigid class by finishing 16 laps. They also finished 16th overall out of a field of 165 teams.

iPlayoutside.com/WVMBA Teams would like to thank . . .

Thank you friends

Sam, Morgan, Betsy, Elizabeth, Cassie, and Cassie Jo said that they definitely wouldn't have been able to perform so well had it not been for the Nanny Services of Mike Miller, Dan Casdorph, and Jeff Smith.

And when the Nannies couldn't handle the task, they were able to hand it off to the able and willing super-mechanic-man, Robbie Loeher, from Pathfinder/Cannondale.

We'd also like to thank the Schooley's for putting us up at the Big Bear Penthouse Suites, replete with all the amenities of home and then some, (our house doesn't have a full-time always available cook like Mike or a keg). All part of the winning teams!
