Great Pumpkin racers get rolling

It was a perfect fall day at Kanawha State Forest-just the right temperature for the 15th Annual Great Pumpkin 5K Race and 1 and 3 mile walks. The event is sponsored by the Charleston Area Medical Center's Physical Therapy departments in celebration of National Physical Therapy Month.

Marshall Spradling was the 1st to cross the finish with a time of 16:45, followed by Scott Clark at 17:42 and Andrew Blair with a time of 18:02.

In the female category Annie Schuerger placed 1st with a time of 19:34, followed by Carrie Burdette 21:19 and Teresa Ranck at 21:33.

Among the 154 race entrants were members of WV Tech's cross country team and Lincoln County High School's Junior ROTC.

80 walkers also participated in this event-several donning their Halloween best.

Special awards were given to Myra Moody, who at 88 years young was the oldest participant. Brooke Stitzinger-Jones was the youngest to complete the walk at age 6.
