Clarksburg Hosts 13th Annual 10K Run
Cecil Jarvis Greater Clarksburg 10K Press Release
The Greater Clarksburg 10K will be held on Saturday, June 13, and will once again be the official WV 10K State Championship. This year with over $10,000 in prize money the event is expected to draw many participants from around the area. In 2008 the race was renamed to include the name, Cecil Jarvis, a local businessman and sponsor, who passed away in 2007 and was very dedicated to the sport.

According to Larry Mazza, race chair, "We continue to make this a family, community, and health event."
"We have included every thing a race should have including a competitive course, good timing, family events, and great awards," adds race director, Carl Hatfield.
Activities
The activities include a variety of races. The 10K will begin at 8:30 a.m., the 2-Mile begins at 10 a.m. and the Kids K run will begin immediately following the 2-Mile race and includes children up to the age of 12. All participants will receive a race t-shirt. All events take place on West Main Street in front of the Fairmont State Caperton Center and the Clarksburg Fire Department.
Teams
Team competition is again available this year. Registration for teams is free once each member individually registers for the race. Another feature includes the Alvarez-Atalanta Division. Participants for this event will weigh in at registration. Again this year, the event will utilize the ChampionChip, which registers the runner's time from start to finish.
Extras
Other features include strategically placed water stations, showers at the YMCA on Lowndes Hill, medical tents, pace groups, t-shirts, and pre-race and post-race massages in front of the Courthouse.
McDonald's Challenge, Father's Day Challenge, and Course Challenge

The Course Challenge includes $1,000, which goes to the fastest male runner who breaks the course record of 28:30. The Father's Day Challenge includes the combined times of father-son and father-daughter for award consideration.
Runner's Clinic
A runner's clinic will continue until race week. It is held at the Clarksburg Episcopal Church on the corner of 6th and Main Street every Tuesday at 6 p.m. The public is invited free of charge.
Free Parking
Free parking will be available on race day at the City Parking Garage on Hewes Avenue, which is accessible by using the Downtown Exit off Rt. 50.
Registration fees are $20 for the 10K ($25 race day), $10 for the 2-Mile, and $7 for the KidsK.
