Pushing a sub 5 minute pace, the first three finishers in the annual Cecil Jarvis Greater Clarksburg 10K put up some blazing times. Professional runners, Philip Lagat of Kenya and Tariku Bokan of Ethiopia were shoulder to shoulder with the pack during the first loop of the course. Seven-time Division-II All-American and Western Pennsylvania-native, Jeff Weiss, was also in that pack along with Reuben Mwei, also from Kenya like Lagat.

Bokan held Lagat in his sights within 50 yards, but could not over take him. Lagat took first with a time of 30:43. Bokan finished 4 seconds behind him.

Afterwards Lagat told Matt Hauswirth of News 12-WBOY, "Oh my gosh there's one more hill. So then I relaxed; just calmed down and relaxed. And my friend from Kenya I saw him fall out at the last minute and I said this could kill me."

Jeff Weiss took third with a time of 30:56. David McCollam of Bridgeport was the first West Virginian to finish. He was 5th overall in 32:58.

Tezeta Dengersa of Ethiopia was the first female (36:37). Askle Merachi, also from Ethiopia, was 2nd (37:36). Heather Cleary (37:53) of Maidsville WV was 3rd and the first WV woman to finish.

More than 600 people from all over the country raced as many spectators lined the streets to enjoy the action and cheer them on. The weekend kicked off with a Thursday night dinner at the Bridgeport Country Club.

Following the 10K was the two-mile run and the Kids K where Ronald McDonald started the race.
