24 Years Strong for SOWV
Story and Photos by Julie Black.
The SOWV serves more than 5,000 athletes from all over the state of WV who compete in 15 Olympics-type sports.
They hold four separate multi-day, state level competitions events and dozens of local and regional events throughout the year.
Athletes must participate in an 8-week training program before they can compete. SOWV has steadily grown from its humble beginnings as a single day sports camp held in Parkersburg back in 1968.
This Gene's 4-miler is part of the Morgantown Area Grand Prix (MAGP) Series, presented by the Morgantown Roadrunners/WV Track Club. This locals favorite, wound itself through the sleepy, summertime streets of South Park in Morgantown, WV.
Local Adam Majot ran across for second in 24:18.
Britta Nelson was 3rd overall and the first female with a time of 25:34. Lindsey Wehseler claimed 7th overall and 2nd place for the women with a time of 26:54. Kristen Maraney (28:30) was the 3rd female.
The last race of the Morgantown Area Grand Prix (MAGP) is the September Stride 5K Run and Walk. Enjoy Friday the evening Pasta Dinner and Door Prizes, then race on Saturday, September 25, 2010.
